About two times a year, we volunteer at the Gathering Place in order to assist those who are having difficulties with technology. We assist with things such as setting up email accounts, transferring data from one computer to another, fixing broken devices, and other technology related issues. Sessions last about an hour and a half to two hours. We are always happy to have people come to us for questions, and we have a great time helping people out and teaching them about technology. We also get free food and drinks, which is always a plus!
Like it or not, you're here right now! This website was created by members of the Software Club to showcase our projects and provide a platform for our members to interact. It features a chatroom where members can communicate , a monopoly game that can (soon) be played with friends. The website is currently being migrated from Flask to Django, a popular web framework for Python, and incorporates various web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We hope you enjoy exploring the site and participating in our projects!
While not technically part of the Software Club, the Computer Club is a sister club that focuses on hardware and physical computing. They take in donations of old computers, repair them, and then give them to people in need. We often collaborate with them on projects and events, and many members are part of both clubs. The Computer Club is a great place to learn about building and repairing computers. If you're interested in hardware or just want to learn more about computers, or you are having issues with your computer, we highly recommend checking out the Computer Club!
This year, the Software Club is hoping to participate in the Modeling the Future Challenge. This challenge is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn about data science, and to apply our skills to real-world problems. If we succeed, we will be able to take over the Pope's job, and we will get $25,000 to spend on Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. We are currently in the process of creating our team(s) and brainstorming ideas for our project. If you're interested in participating, consider joining the Software Club.
